Ozempic® is a prescription medication containing the active ingredient semaglutide. It mimics the action of a natural hormone (GLP-1) that helps regulate blood sugar levels, appetite, and digestion. While originally developed for managing type 2 diabetes, Ozempic® has been shown to promote effective and sustained weight loss by reducing hunger and helping you feel fuller for longer.
Ozempic® works by influencing areas of the brain that control appetite and food intake. It slows down digestion, which helps you feel satisfied after eating smaller portions. This combination of appetite suppression and improved portion control supports gradual and sustainable weight loss.
Ozempic® is FDA approved for use in weight management and type 2 diabetes and has been extensively studied in clinical trials. At VL Aesthetics, your safety is our top priority. Our medical team will conduct a full health assessment before prescribing the treatment and monitor your progress throughout.
Yes, Ozempic® is supported by extensive clinical research demonstrating its effectiveness for both weight loss and type 2 diabetes management. Studies have shown that Ozempic® helps reduce body weight by influencing appetite and food intake, with many participants achieving significant and sustained weight loss over time.
One of the most notable studies is the STEP (Semaglutide Treatment Effect in People with Obesity) clinical trial, which found that participants taking semaglutide alongside lifestyle interventions lost an average of 15-20% of their body weight compared to those using a placebo. Additionally, the treatment showed improvements in metabolic health markers such as blood sugar levels and cholesterol.
Ozempic® is typically recommended for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or for those with a BMI of 27+ who also have weight-related health conditions (such as high blood pressure or cholesterol). During your consultation at VL Aesthetics, we’ll assess your medical history and health goals to determine if Ozempic® is the right option for you.
Ozempic® is administered via a once-weekly injection using a pre-filled pen. Our team will provide full guidance on how to self-administer the treatment safely and comfortably at home.
Results vary depending on individual factors such as starting weight, lifestyle, and adherence to the programme. Many clients experience noticeable weight loss within the first few weeks, with consistent improvement over several months. Your progress will be closely monitored to ensure optimal results.
Like all medications, Ozempic® can cause side effects in some individuals. The most common include mild nausea, stomach discomfort, or fatigue, particularly during the first few weeks as your body adjusts. These effects usually subside over time. During your consultation, we’ll discuss all potential risks and ensure the treatment is safe for you.
Yes, Ozempic® is increasingly prescribed for weight management in people who do not have diabetes. While it was initially developed for type 2 diabetes, its appetite-regulating properties make it an effective tool for weight loss when prescribed by a healthcare professional.
While Ozempic® can help reduce hunger and control cravings, long-term weight management is best supported by healthy lifestyle changes. We recommend a balanced diet, regular exercise, and ongoing support from our team to maximise your results.
The duration of treatment varies depending on your weight loss goals and how your body responds. Many clients use Ozempic® for several months to achieve their target weight, after which we’ll work with you to develop a plan for maintaining your results.
Getting started is easy—simply book a consultation with our expert team at VL Aesthetics. We’ll assess your suitability for Ozempic®, answer any questions, and design a personalised plan to help you achieve your weight loss goals.
