Restore your natural, youthful look

About Dermal Fillers

Over time, changes in volume and skin structure can make lines and contours more noticeable. At VL Aesthetics in Carlisle, dermal filler treatments are designed to restore support, refine facial contours, and achieve natural-looking rejuvenation.

Most dermal fillers are formulated with hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally within the body and helps maintain skin hydration and structure. When placed with precision, fillers can provide subtle lift, definition, and improved facial balance.

Your consultation is carried out by our experienced Cosmetic Doctor, who will assess your facial profile and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your goals. Treatments are performed using advanced techniques within a fully regulated medical setting.

How Dermal Fillers Work

There are many different types of cosmetic injectables, and many different brands that use these injectables. For example, Juvederm® and TEOSYAL️® are trademarked names for treatments that use hyaluronic acid, and are commonly referred to as 'dermal fillers'. At VL Aesthetics, we only use the top brands for our cosmetic injections.

Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body. It is a sugar-based compound that acts as a powerful humectant - it can carry up to 1000 times its weight in water, giving skin a young and supple appearance. As you get older, your body makes less hyaluronic acid, resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, baggy eyes, and other symptoms of ageing. By injecting hyaluronic acid directly beneath your skin, we can restore a youthful look.

We tailor make our treatments to suit your aims, objectives, and personal characteristics. Because of this very personal approach, pricing varies from person to person and can only be provided at your consultation.

We are however, very competitively priced in Cumbria, and our treatments come with a convenient payment plan option that allows you to pay in manageable monthly instalments.

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to restore lost volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial features. They are typically made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, or other biocompatible materials like calcium hydroxylapatite. Fillers are commonly used to treat areas such as the cheeks, lips, jawline, and under-eyes, and they provide instant, natural-looking results.

A dermal filler facelift is a non-surgical procedure that uses strategically placed fillers to lift and rejuvenate the entire face. It addresses multiple areas, such as the cheeks, jawline, and nasolabial folds, to create a more youthful and harmonious appearance.

Dermal fillers are injected beneath the skin to add volume, smooth fine lines, and reshape facial contours. Hyaluronic acid fillers attract water to the treated area, providing hydration and plumpness, while other types, such as calcium-based fillers, stimulate collagen production for longer-lasting results.

The longevity of dermal fillers depends on the type of filler used and the area treated:

  • Lips: 6–9 months.
  • Cheeks: 12–18 months.
  • Tear troughs (under-eyes): Up to 12 months.
  • Jawline and chin: 12–18 months.
  • Thicker, longer-lasting fillers (e.g., for deep facial contours) may last up to 2 years.

We offer dermal filler treatments for a wide range of areas, including:

  • Tear Troughs: Reduce under-eye hollows and dark circles.
  • Cheeks: Add lift, contour, and restore volume.
  • Lips: Enhance shape, volume, and hydration.
  • Jawline: Create definition and balance facial proportions.
  • Chin: Improve projection and symmetry.
  • Nasolabial Folds and Marionette Lines: Smooth wrinkles and folds around the mouth.
  • Dermal Filler Facelift: A non-surgical approach to rejuvenating the entire face.

Yes, dermal fillers are safe when performed by a qualified and experienced professional. At VL Aesthetics in Carlisle, we use only premium, FDA-approved fillers to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficacy. While minor side effects like swelling or bruising are normal, serious complications are rare and can be minimised by choosing an expert practitioner.

Discomfort during dermal filler treatments is minimal. At VL Aesthetics, we use fine needles or cannulas and may apply a numbing cream before the procedure to enhance your comfort. Many fillers also contain a local anaesthetic to reduce discomfort during and after treatment.

Results from dermal fillers are visible immediately after treatment, though mild swelling or bruising may temporarily obscure the final outcome. Most patients can enjoy the full, settled results within 1–2 weeks.

Dermal fillers are suitable for most adults looking to enhance their facial features or combat the signs of ageing. However, they may not be suitable for:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals.
  • Those with severe allergies or sensitivities to filler ingredients.
  • People with certain medical conditions, such as autoimmune disorders.

A thorough consultation with our Cosmetic Doctor will determine if dermal fillers are right for you. Contact us today to book your consultation and take the first step towards achieving your aesthetic goals with expert care.

Yes, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. If you are unhappy with your results or experience complications, our team at VL Aesthetics can safely reverse the filler. Non-hyaluronic fillers cannot be dissolved but will naturally break down over time.

  • Restore lost volume.
  • Enhance facial contours or features like the lips, cheeks, or jawline.
  • Smooth out wrinkles or folds.

Yes, dermal fillers can be combined with other treatments, such as Anti-Wrinkle Injections, for a more comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation. Anti-Wrinkle Injections reduce dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, while fillers restore volume and smooth static lines. Your practitioner will advise you on the best combination for your goals.

While most side effects, like swelling and bruising, are mild and temporary, contact us immediately if you experience:

  • Severe pain.
  • Discolouration of the skin (e.g., blanching or patchiness).
  • Signs of infection (e.g., warmth, redness, or pus).

Our team is here to support you every step of the way.

There is no specific age at which you should start the treatments – All people age differently and feel differently about how they look. In general, we find that people start the treatments for the following reasons:

20s – To prevent wrinkles and fine lines from occurring.
30s – To prolong the youthful look as wrinkles and fine lines start to appear.
40s – To tackle wrinkles and fine lines before they are deeply imprinted.
50+ – To improve the appearance of deeper wrinkles and fine lines.

When administered by a qualified professional, both Anti-Wrinkle Injections and dermal fillers are considered safe for long-term use. However, there is ongoing scientific research into the cumulative effects of repeated treatments.

  • Anti-Wrinkle Injections: Long-term use of Anti-Wrinkle Injections has been studied extensively, and research indicates that it is generally safe. Regular treatments can sometimes lead to muscle atrophy (weakening of the treated muscle) due to reduced activity over time. However, this is typically reversible if treatments are stopped.
  • Dermal Fillers: Hyaluronic acid fillers are biodegradable and naturally metabolised by the body over time. Long-term studies have shown no significant risks when fillers are used appropriately. However, repeated treatments may occasionally result in mild tissue scarring or changes in skin texture, particularly if performed improperly or in overfilled areas.

If you're considering long-term use of Anti-Wrinkle Injections or fillers, it's essential to consult with a practitioner who understands facial anatomy and can create a personalised treatment plan to avoid overuse or unnatural results. At VL Aesthetics in Carlisle, our expert team prioritises your safety and ensures every treatment is tailored to your needs.
