Skin is the largest organ in the human body, and because it is exposed to environmental stress, it is the most tell tale indicator of our age and lifestyle. Your skin can be divided into two layers: The epidermis (an outer barrier layer) and the dermis (an inner structural layer). Fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and loss of youthful plumpness are all visible signs of ageing which can be caused by environmental aggressors such as UV rays, cold, and pollution.
Collagen is a simple protein made up of amino acids. It improves skin elasticity by increasing the density of fibroblasts (the cells responsible for rebuilding connective tissue). The more collagen you have, the healthier, more elastic, and more supple your skin is. Alarmingly, we lose 1% of our collagen each year after the age of 20. This results in skin ageing, including wrinkles, fine lines, blemishes, dryness, and thinning.
The collagen matrix helps to produce new skin cells, and is responsible for skin support, firmness, elasticity, and hydration. Over the past decade research into skin ageing has shown that the major difference between youthful and ageing skin is the health and integrity of the collagen matrix in the dermis. Studies show that the most effective way to maintain the collagen matrix is to boost the body’s own production of collagen by ingesting collagen peptides.

The Skinade® formula is protected by several patents and contains 6 active ingredients:
- Hydrolysed Marine Collagen Peptides – With a low molecular weight of 2kDa, these are some of the smallest collagen peptides available within collagen drinks. They are sourced from fresh water fish skin, giving them a high level of type I collagen, type III collagen, and amino acids.
- Vitamin C (Calcium Ascorbate) – Protects against free radical damage and helps with collagen production and maintenance. Vitamin C also helps with the absorption of the collagen peptides.
- Vitamin B Complex (B1, B2 - Riboflavin, B3 - Niacin, B5, B6, B7 - Biotin, B9 - Folic acid and B12) – Prevents oxidative stress and promotes healthy, clear skin.
- MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) – An organic sulphur that aids collagen and keratin formation.
- Organic Flax Seed Oil – Typically provides 26mg of alpha Linolenic acid (Omega 3) and 7mg of Linoleic acid (Omega 6) which help improve dry and oily skin.
- L-lysine – An amino acid essential in the process of rebuilding the collagen matrix.
Skinade® has natural flavours from mangosteen and peach juices, as well as concentrated grape juice. It is sweetened with sucralose - a zero-calorie artificial sweetener. It does not need to be stored in the refrigerator, but many people prefer it chilled.
Skinade® does not contain bovine or porcine products, hormones, genetically modified organisms, alcohol, added sugar, artificial flavours, or artificial colours, and is free from lactose, gluten, and dairy. It does however contain marine collagen, sourced from fresh-water fish, so it is not suitable for strict vegans or vegetarians.

The effects on the skin are not limited to the face - they will be noticeable all over your body. Results will continue to last if you continue to consume the product. If you stop taking Skinade® for a few days, the effects will be maintained, but if you stop the treatment completely, the positive effects will be gradually lost over time.
Results can vary from person to person, depending on genetics, lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, etc.
Skinade® also has positive feedback from eczema and psoriasis sufferers - these effects could be attributed to the use of L-lysine in the formulation.
You may notice a discolouration or brightening of your urine after ingesting the Skinade® drink for the first time. Some people might experience a mild laxative effect for the first day or two, but this will resolve after a couple of days.
There is also a well-known side effect for Vitamin B sensitivity - a small percentage of people taking Vitamin B3 (Niacin) supplements experience flushing or tingling in the skin that can last up to about 60 minutes. This side effect is known as 'Niacin Flush' - it is caused by a dilation of the capillaries in the skin by Vitamin B3 to increase blood flow in areas of poor circulation. You can minimise Niacin Flush by taking Skinade® with food, or by drinking the dose in smaller amounts over the course of a day.
To consume the same level of essential nutrients and collagen peptides, you would have to take at least 20 large collagen tablets for each 150ml Skinade® bottle!
Collagen tablets are more difficult to ingest and assimilate into the body, and are only ever partially absorbed. By contrast, the collagen and essential ingredients in Skinade® are in liquid form, allowing a 90% - 95% absorption rate (tablets offer an absorption rate of only 30% to 40%).
Results will continue to last if you continue to consume the product. If you stop taking Skinade® for a few days, the effects will be maintained, but if you stop treatment completely, the positive effects will be gradually lost over time.
