Thread veins – also known as spider veins – are small blood vessels in the most superficial layer of the skin (the dermis) which have become dilated and visible. They can be red, purple, or blue, and most often appear on the legs or face.
Thread veins are caused by a variety of factors, including ageing, genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, carrying excess weight, inactivity, and exposure to the sun.
Cynosure® uses advanced laser technology to target and destroy the blood vessels responsible for thread veins, causing them to visibly disappear. This process is called Photothermolysis.
Since the laser targets the blood vessels within the vein, there is minimal or no damage to the outer layers of the skin.
The number of treatments that you require depends on the severity of the condition.
You will be able to see improvements after the very first session, however, for more severe cases, several treatments might be necessary for optimal results.
During your consultation, we will evaluate your condition and advise you on the required number of treatments.
Most patients experience a significant improvement after the very first session, and the results will continue to improve over the next week or so.
The results are permanent, however, sometimes new veins can appear in other areas of the body over time.
Treatments can take anywhere between 5-30 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated and the number of treatment areas.
Cynosure® is clinically proven and cleared by the FDA - a status attributed to only the most effective products. This certification means that the laser has been put through rigorous scientific testing and has been shown to work on all people that it is medically safe to treat - We carry out a full medical assessment before starting your treatment, so if you are not suitable, we will find out before your treatment begins.
Very safe. Cynosure® is FDA cleared - a status attributed to only the safest products.
However, although the treatments are very safe, they are not suitable for people with certain medical conditions - We carry out a full medical assessment before starting your treatment, so if you are not suitable, we will find out before your treatment begins.
The treatments are relatively painless - Patients describe a range of sensations, from tingling to the snap of a rubber band.
A topical anaesthetic can be applied to the area prior to the treatment if you are concerned about discomfort. However, treatments are more than tolerable thanks to Cynosure’s built-in cooling systems.
There is usually no social downtime after the treatment is complete. However, you may experience some slight swelling, redness, or bruising which should subside after a few days.
