Aqualyx® consists of 12alfa-dihydroxy-5beta-24-oico cholanic acid sodium salt, which is a modified compound of cholanic acid - The ingredients are a polymer from 3, 6-Anhydro-L-Galactose and D-Galactose (0.5%), buffer systems (4.2%), sodium salt of (3α, 5α, 12α) - 3, 12-dihydroxy-5-cholan-24-acid (7.5%), water for injection purposes (87%), and sodium chloride (0.8%).

The buffer systems within Aqualyx® ensure that the cholanic acid compound is delivered to the target area, while the slow-release sugars minimise side effects by reducing the biological half life of the solution.

Aqualyx® Fat Dissolving Injections work through a form of ‘intralipotherapy’. The 12alfa-dihydroxy-5beta-24-oico cholanic acid sodium salt alters the surface tension of the fat cell membrane and increases its permeability. This causes the fat cells to expand and break up, releasing micro droplets of fatty liquid into the body. These micro droplets are then eliminated by macrophages (part of the body’s immune system) and the liver.

Aqualyx® was developed by Doctor Professor Pasquale Motolese, president of the Italian Society of Aesthetic Medicine. It has been given CE approval for use in the UK, which means that it meets all of the required health and safety standards.

Although Aqualyx® is very safe, the injections must be administered by a medical professional – At VL Aesthetics, our Aqualyx® treatments are carried out by a fully-registered nurse with over 30 years of professional experience.

As long as you are generally healthy and do not have any skin diseases or infections in the treated area, there are very few medical reasons for why you should not undergo this treatment. However, Aqualyx® is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breast feeding. It is also not recommended for people who have been diagnosed with lipodystrophy or any pathological condition.

We carry out a full medical assessment before starting your treatment, so if you are not a suitable candidate, we will find out before your treatment begins.

The injections themselves are relatively painless. However, the most common minor side effects are some redness, swelling, and tenderness in the treated area.
