Give yourself a boost

About B12 Injections

Vitamin B12 is essential for the human body – it helps to make DNA, red blood cells, proteins, and nerves. Unfortunately, B12 is not easily absorbed from food – many people have a B12 deficiency, making them more tired, less happy, and stressed.

With B12 injections, you can give yourself a boost – they’ll give you more energy, help you think better, put you in a good mood, improve your immune system, and generally make you healthier. On top of this, B12 injections help prevent osteoporosis, anaemia, macular degeneration, dementia, heart disease, stroke, depression, and anxiety.

Unlike oral supplements, B12 injections are very effective – the vitamin is directly absorbed and used by the body. The injections can only be prescribed by a doctor however. At VL Aesthetics, our doctor is highly qualified to administer the injections – Book an appointment online now and find out how B12 can help you:

To give you an idea of price: A single B12 injection costs £25.

Vitamin B12 shots are most effective when taken at regular intervals, but how regularly you should take them depends on your individual characteristics and lifestyle.

For example, those that exercise regularly might want to take B12 shots bi-monthly, while others might be more suited to 4 shots per year.

During your appointment, our specialist doctor will recommend the best option for you.

You will see results after your first B12 shot, but for the very best results we recommend a course of 4 (it can take time to build up your B12 levels).

Very safe - even excess amount of vitamin B12 have been shown to not cause any harm. Vitamin B12 is water-soluble, so any surplus passes directly through the urine.

Vitamin B12 injections are very quick and generally painless. However, some people with sensitive skin might feel very mild discomfort.

Vitamin B12 is naturally found in animal produce, including fish, meat, chicken, eggs, and dairy products. It is generally not present in plant foods, unless it has been artificially added. For this reason, vegans and vegetarians are at a higher risk of B12 deficiency, but most people lack B12 because it is not easily absorbed from the digestive tract - You might be consuming enough B12 in your diet, but it is not being used by your body.

The following types of people might not be getting enough vitamin B12 in their diet, or may have problems absorbing it:

  • Adults over 50 - Approximately 10-30% of adults over 50 have difficulty absorbing vitamin B12 from food. This is because, as we get older, we produce less hydrochloric acid in the stomach (hydrochloric acid is essential for B12 absorption).
  • Vegetarians or vegans - Vitamin B12 is naturally found in animal produce, including fish, meat, chicken, eggs, and dairy products. It is generally not present in plant foods, unless it has been artificially added.
  • People under a lot of stress - Stress often affects the digestive system and limits its absorption capabilities.
  • People who drink a lot of alcohol - Drinking a lot of alcohol can inflame the stomach lining and reduce the amount of stomach acid. This decreases the body's ability to absorb nutrients, and thus, lowers the absorption of B12.
  • People who take certain medications - Medications such as Omeprazole, Lansoprazole, or Ranitidine (for acid reflux and peptic ulcer disease), Metaformin (for treating diabetes), and Chloramphenicol (an antibiotic) all affect vitamin B12 absorption.
  • People who have certain digestive disorders - Coeliac disease, Crohn’s disease, IBS, or regular diarrhoea have all been show to lower B12 absorption rates.
  • People who have certain eating disorders - Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa are often associated with vitamin B12 deficiency.

A vitamin B12 deficiency causes many symptoms, including:

  • Lack of energy, weakness, tiredness, or lightheadedness.
  • Stress, anxiety, or mood swings.
  • Mental confusion, brain fog, poor memory, poor sleep, depression, or dementia.
  • Heart palpitations, shortness of breath, or balance problems.
  • Constipation, loss of appetite, or weight loss.
  • Nerve problems, damage to the nervous system, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet.
  • Soreness of the mouth or tongue.
  • Pale skin.

Yes. At your appointment we can organise a payment plan that suits you.
